When discussing Blish Nocturne, Choi Hyeong-rok's classical background cannot be overlooked. A Sendai Competition winner and actively performing pianist, he also gained attention in 2024 for his duo activities with cellist Lim Dong-min. In one interview, he said, "I hope people experience the new chapter that is 20th-century classical music," and his musical vision is seamlessly woven into Blish Nocturne's arrangements. What makes Blish Nocturne unique is layering popular music's accessibility onto this classical foundation. Complex harmonic progressions and precise voice leading come from classical music, while intuitive melodies and honest lyrics are drawn from indie folk. Blish Nocturne's music doesn't rush. Blish Nocturne's musical roots trace back to childhood. Choi Hae-den and her younger brother Choi Hyeong-rok naturally grew up with music, singing along to songs and creating dances from around ages 9 and 6. These siblings' music crosses the boundaries between classical and popular music. Due to Choi Hyeong-rok's influence as a pianist, classical sophistication can be felt in harmonies and arrangements, but at its foundation lies indie folk's honesty and warmth. Signature songs like 'My Wonderland', 'From This Star's Summer', 'I Just Hope You Think of Me Suddenly', and 'A Place to Lean On' all deal with universal human emotions of love and separation, longing and comfort. But Blish Nocturne's approach is different. Rather than exaggerating or dramatically expressing emotions, they convey them calmly, as if reading a diary aloud. Recently, their activities in the music world are gaining more attention. Particularly, Choi Hyeong-rok has built a brilliant career as a classical pianist, including winning the Sendai Competition, and in 2024, he also gained attention for his cello-piano duo activities with Lim Dong-min. In one interview, Choi Hyeong-rok revealed, "My goal is to capture all emotions through music."
